Did you know that on June 24, 1919, Pennsylvania voted in favor of the Nineteenth Amendment? By August of 1920, 36 states (including Pennsylvania) approved the Amendment, making women’s suffrage legal all across the country.
As part of our Justice Bell 2020 initiative, on June 24, 2019 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm we will commemorate that event with a visit to the Justice Bell from the First Lady of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Frances Wolf along with Alexandra Tatnall. Alexandra is the grand niece of Katherine W. Ruschenberger who provided us with the Justice Bell. We are planning on Mrs. Wolfe saying a few words with an unchaining and ringing of the Bell which will provide us with a great photo op for the Chapel.
Although this will be a brief event due to Mrs. Wolfe’s schedule, it will provide further education and awareness of our beautiful campus, and perhaps will engage those outside of our congregation to become involved in our vision and mission since media will be present.
Stop by if you can to show your appreciation to these fine ladies for helping to spread the word about the Justice Bell and if you have something white – please wear it!
Plans for our celebrations in 2020 are moving along nicely – only 14 months left and counting. We are busy collaborating with the Pennsylvania DAR, League of Women Voters, Chester County Historical Society, Breakthrough Philadelphia, Valley Forge Park Alliance, Independence National Historic Park, Links, Cedarcrest College, Drexel University Vision 2020 Women 100, City of Philadelphia and other organizations. Laura and Joe Mager are graciously and effectively leading the champagne sendoff committee for the Chapel which will take place August 25, 2020. If you or someone you know would like to get involved as a volunteer or sponsor, please contact email@example.com
