National Trails Day

Long pants and close toe shoes recommended

Celebrating the great outdoors and America's trail systems. Join us for guided hikes and walks plus service projects. Enjoy coffee and donuts from 8-8:45 am at the Temporary Visitor Center located in the lower parking lot and learn more about Park trails. Stop by the Athleta table for special giveaways and learn more about Athleta’s commitment to sustainability. In case of inclement weather, event may be cancelled. REI outdoor instructors will provide basics on hiking and camping during activities.  Pre-register here (link to sign up genius) for events noted below:

8:30 am Mount Joy Hike – Three mile (1.5 hour) hilly hike. Steep, unpaved landscape. Hike up and down Mt. Joy including overlook of Valley Creek.

8:45 am Grand Parade Trail Hike – Three-mile (2 hour) hike on the Grand Parade. Uneven grass and gravel surfaces. No dogs allowed.

9:00 am Dog Walk – Two mile (1 hour) walk from the Temporary Visitor Center to the National Memorial Arch and back. Dogs and strollers welcome.

9:30 am Walk into History – One mile (1 hour) hike from the Temporary Visitor Center to the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts. Walk on both paved and grassy surfaces.

9:45 am Highlights of Happenings in the Park Walk – One hour walk from the Temporary Visitor Center, over Sullivan’s Bridge and along the Schuylkill River Trail. Dogs and strollers welcome.

9:00 am – 12:00 pm Weed Warriors – Natural Resources service project. Join Park staff and volunteers to remove invasive plants in the Park. Meet at Maurice Stevens Parking lot across from Washington Memorial Chapel. Equipment and gloves provided.

9:00 am – 12:00 pm REI Hands-on Stewardship Project - Join Park staff and volunteers at Wayne’s Woods to repair and replace split rail fencing. Meet at Wayne’s Woods parking lot.
